Darjeeling Turzum First Flush Basant Blossom 2024

The BASANT BLOSSOM is a blue ribbon Darjeeling First Flush Tea, crafted at Jay Shree Tea’s Turzum Tea Estate to pay homage to the company’s founder Basant Kumar Birla. The word ‘Basant’ in many Indian languages connotes the Spring Season. Gently picked before sunrise only by veteran lady pluckers, withered under the morning sun and hand-rolled expertly - this tea defines a top shelf Darjeeling First Flush Tea . This tea, made from the finest AV2 clonal stock boasts long, loosely rolled leaves, bearing a greyish-green sheen and a satin touch. The infusion is a radiant green with an enchanting floral aroma. Masterfully manufactured, the Basant Blossom unveils a light, bright yellow liquor with a lingering flowery flavour, followed by a delicate peachy aftertaste.

ABOUT THE GARDEN

Nestled amidst the enchanting Mirik valley, Sungma and Turzum stands out as one of Darjeeling's most picturesque tea estates. Situated in the Rung Bong valley, renowned for its exclusive quality tea, the estate boasts cool, misty climates with temperatures ranging from 3 degrees in winter to 28 degrees in summer, accompanied by an annual rainfall of 2500 to 3000 mm during July to September. Located approximately 30 kilometres from Darjeeling town, the estate enjoys excellent road connectivity. Established between 1863 and 1868 by British planters, Sungma and Turzum initially began with excellent quality chinary seed stock. Following a massive earthquake in 1934 that devastated the Sungma tea factory, both estates merged, with all manufacturing operations shifting to Turzum. Acquired by Jayshree Tea in 1993, the estate witnessed significant investments in tea cultivation, successful replanting initiatives, employee welfare, and tea manufacturing infrastructure. These efforts culminated in remarkable achievements in quality improvement, resulting in increased unit prices for its teas. Notably, the estate holds Fair Trade certification and has been awarded ISO 1901:2008 and HACCP certifications by TUV NORD, highlighting its commitment to excellence and sustainability.
