Infused with spices and herbs, flavoured tea is among the most delicious variations of tea consumed in India and abroad. Spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, pepper and nutmeg give the tea a fragrant, spiced, and strong flavour. If you are a tea lover and your mornings and evenings are incomplete without a steaming cup of flavoured tea, here are some healthy tea time snacks to go along your cuppa:

1. Bhel:

Spice up your tea time with bhel, a healthy and low-calorie savoury snack. Made with puffed rice, fresh chopped onion and tomatoes, lemon juice, peanuts, sev and mint chutney, bhel is a great alternative to deep-fried snacks. For extra crunch, you can add roasted peanuts.

2. Makhana

Low in cholesterol, fat and sodium, roasted makhana (fox nuts) are a great healthy tea time snack. Roast them in a tablespoon of ghee and add a pinch of salt and pepper. For some extra flavour, you can even add a little bit of red chilli powder and jeera powder.

3. Pumpkin seeds:

Though they look tiny, pumpkin seeds are packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. They are one of the healthiest snacks to munch while enjoying flavoured tea. Roast the pumpkin seeds in a pan and add a bit of salt and your healthy snack is ready. You can even add sunflower seeds and roast them together. To spice up this crunchy snack, you can even add powdered cinnamon, clove or nutmeg.

4. A trail mix of nuts and seeds

Eating one particular kind of nut or seed can be a tad boring. A trail mix of nuts and seeds can give your taste buds a treat. Homemade trail mix can be more healthier than the store-bought varieties as you have control over the quality of nuts you use. In a pan, roast almonds, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. You can add a tablespoon of ghee or olive oil. Once it cools down, add walnuts, dates, prunes and coconut flakes. Store it in an airtight container and have a handful of it whenever you are brewing your favourite flavoured tea.

5. Peanut butter toast:

Peanut butter is a delicious snack as it has rich flavour, creamy texture and sweet and salty taste. It is also a good source of important nutrients. To make a healthy snack, use multigrain or millet bread and spread a generous amount of peanut butter. If you like your toast sweet, spread a little bit of jam.
