TOWKOK GROUP OF TEA ESTATES

LOCATION: On the fertile banks of the river Towkok in the foothills of Nagaland.

YEAR OF ACQUISITION: 1955 

FEATURES: This group has Towkok, Manjushree and Mangalam Tea Estates. The Group gardens carried extensive R&D and were able to maintain a parity between quality and quantity. The group produces the best CTC and Orthodox teas which ranks among the best quality tea producing gardens in Assam. The acquisition of this property brought great prestige to the company. 

The group employs 4,383 permanent workers. Additional casual workers are employed during the harvesting season. Child labour is not employed in the plantation. 

The tea gardens are ISO 9002 certified. The process of obtaining HACCP Certification is going on.

TOWKOK TEA ESTATE
In local language "TOWKOK" means "Dancing Tortoise". The topography of the land is like tortoise' shell, generally plain with mild hills.

MANJUSHREE TEA ESTATE
"MANJUSHREE" means "The Goddess of Wealth" , and this name is quite appropriate to this property.

The garden was scientifically laid out in 1967 on virgin soil. Tea Plantation on the hill slopes and presents wonderful scenic beauty. New factory was also built in the same year with the capacity to produce both CTC and Orthodox.

GROSS YIELD: 1,908 Kgs/Hectare

MANGALAM TEA ESTATE
"MANGALAM" means "Feel Good". 

Beautiful plantation with 100% quality clones. The concept of close spacing in tea plantation took birth here. The garden produces exceptionally best Assam Orthodox and CTC in its new modern factory. Mangalam has become and icon of quality.

AREA UNDER TEA: 105 Hectares.

GROSS YIELD : 1,403  Kgs/Hectares.

WELFARE ACTIVITIES: The group provides free housing, fuel and water along with subsidized cereals, education and health care.  During the monsoon and winter months protective clothing is provided to the workers. Hospitals and schools are also located in the garden.
