Location :18 km from Bagdogra Airport, 35 km from Siliguri Town

Year of Acquisition : 1st April, 2008.

Features :The garden is situated 88.4o latitude and 26.3o longitude in the Terai zone of North Bengal. The garden falls under Phanshidewa Block. The nearest major railway station is New Jalpaiguri which is about 50 km. away and the nearest airport terminal is Bagdogra which is about 18 km. away. The garden is on the National Highway No.31 which is being developed to four lanes. The garden falls between two international borders – Nepal in North-West and Bangladesh in South-East. This garden is last on Terai plateau, the garden has rolling topography and few jhoras pass through its area. This garden is followed by sprawling paddy fields and pineapple farms.
The Garden was planted by the Zamindar family of Jalpaiguri. The name Sahabad was derived from the cast title of Saha family. In the year 1989, the name was changed to "Jayantika Tea Estate".
The garden has a factory of huge capacity to manufacture good quality teas. The working force is mixture of Adivasi, Nepali and Local inhabitants.

Gross yield : 1100 Tons per year

Welfare activities :Free housing to the workers, Fuel, Drinking Water along with subsidized cereals and primary education on the garden and transport for outside school going students. As per climate change and working conditions protective clothing and equipments are provided to the workers. A labor club is also maintained for the workers where annual sports and cultural programmers ate held. A twenty bed Hospital is functioning with qualified Doctor and paramedical Staff for free treatment to the workers and their dependent. An Ambulance is in service for 24 hours for emergency and specialized treatment outside in upgraded hospital.

Certificates Awarded: Certificate awarded by M/s J. Thomas & Co. Pvt. Ltd. for fetching highest sale price in Siliguri Auction in the year 1997-98.

Special Features :This garden is last on Terai plateaus. Before partition this area was in Bihar State and later on during Dr. B.C. Roy’s regime it was included in West Bengal. Because of the water flow pattern and location of the garden, the underground seepage water comes out and a portion of this garden has water logging problem.
A part of tea area has been planted with Assam broad leaf seed stock, teas made out of these leaf gives brick red color liquor which is preferred in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Recently we have acquired and planted about 20,000 plants of TRF-I clone of good quality and high yield from south India. A tea plant nursery and shade tree nursery has been raised of good quality and high yield clone. This part of the tea growing area has developed very erratic weather conditions and this garden faces acute droughty conditions due to shrinking of rain distribution. Fortunately we have good irrigation system which is being up graded as per requirement.

Short Story of this garden

This Garden was planted by Saha family in the year 1929 in very adverse conditions. The Laboures were brought from Ranchi and Chota Nagpur. This part of the country before independence was undeveloped and known as Kalapani on land. This area was full of wild life and infested by disease like Malaria, Dengue and Kala Azar. During Colonial regime many rebellions were dumped here. This area also had a convict hanging place presently known as Phansidewa.
