Awards and Achievements :

We feel proud that the Meleng Tea Estate have been awarded twice by TEA BOARD for best quality of tea sold during the 1974 and 1979.

In 2009/10 we were accorded a citation from M/S J Thomas & Co. (Broker) for fetching outstanding price in Auction.

Special Features : Meleng Tea Estate is one of the oldest plantations in Assam .It was started way back in 1852 by Mr.J.E.Todd than supdt of Kakajan Tea Estate .Its irony that he started this garden and he took his last breath here. This estate was all along remained in the hands of same family, till our Co. M/S Jayshree Tea & Industries Ltd. took it from them in the year 1969.
In the early year this estate was full of wild animals like Tiger, Leopard, and Elephant etc. and it needed lot of courage on the part of people to establish such a huge estate inside the forest area .Even now worker called specific area as BAGHMARA, SAP TAL etc.
The estate is surrounded by local villages which cropped up because of flourishing garden. One side of estate leads to world heritage GIBBON SANCTUARY. This is the only habitat of GIBBON monkey who incidentally never comes down to earth through their life cycle.

Welfare Activities : The welfare activities of Garden is up to the mark and we follow all the norms stipulated under PLA-1953,moreover we are partner of Ethical Tea Partnership who are regulating such activities through Audit and it’s a continuous process. Besides this the some of belonging of worker speaks lot about the fair management practices of the company.
