LOCATION: 9 Kms from Jorhat on the banks of River Meleng.

YEAR OF ACQUISITION: 1969

AREA UNDER TEA: 742.43 hectares

GROSS YIELD: 1,687 kg/hectare

FEATURES: Meleng tea estate had its name from "Meleng" river. Tea is planted on both banks of the river. It was founded by Mr. J. E. Jood in 1852.

The estate has excellent planting material for producing quality Golden Tippy Orthodox tea with malty charter, and high class brisk, bright and Gutty CTC tea.  The estate earned many prestigious awards from Tea Board of India for quality tea. 

The estate now employs 1,700 permanent workers. During the harvesting season additional casual workers are employed. No child labour is employed in the garden. 

WELFARE ACTIVITIES: The garden provides free housing, fuel and water along with subsidized cereals and education.  During the monsoon and winter months protective clothing is provided to the workers. Free medical treatment is provided to its workers and their dependants. 

For the spiritual upliftment of workers and their families, a temple has been built by the company.
