ASSAM

Assam lies beneath the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. It is the land of the tiger and the one-horned Rhino,  the land through which the mighty Bramhaputra winds its majestic course. It is the world's single largest tea growing region covering the Bramhaputra and the Barak valleys. There are 655 estates covering about 168,000 Hectares.

Both Orthodox and CTC types are produced in Assam. In flavour, it is robust, bright with a smooth malt pungency. Assam has a first flush, second flush, rains and autumn teas. The first flush has a rich and fresh aroma, the second flush produces the famous "Tippy Teas" of the orthodox variety with thick and gutty cups of CTC tea. "Rains Tea" make the bulk of production while "Autumn Teas" have a delicate taste and flavour.
