LOCATION: Annexed to Silchar Airport, Assam. YEAR OF ACQUISITION: 1963 FEATURES: This group consists of three gardens Dewan, Burtoll and Labac. During the time of acquisition the gardens with aged plantations were in a deplorable condition with a pitifully low yield. The company introduced innovative, intensive and integrated field development of its tea sections with reduced spacing and blocks in filling for a higher concentration of plants. This resulted in a three - fold multiplication of crop yield- from 15.14 lakh Kgs to more than 53 lakh Kgs. This group has also received ISO 9002 certification. The Dewan Group employs 4,607 permanent workers. In the harvesting season additional casual workers are engaged. No children are employed on the Gardens . WELFARE ACTIVITIES: The Dewan Group of Tea Estates has a 110 - bed hospital with a fully equipped operation theatre, popularly known as ‘ BP Kedia Central Hospital’. The Garden provides free housing, fuel, protective clothing and subsidized cereals.
